Letter to a friend about California and San Francisco

A quote from a letter to a friend. ” …. It is so weird but when I am feeling homesick my feelings are dual: homesick for Lithuania and Denmark. California is great! but I still adjusting to its culture. San Franciscans are very weird creatures that is hard for me to understand and sometimes tolerate maybe it is just me or I have not met yet the right ones They pretend being COOL too much…hipsters…its so funny sometimes to listen other people chats…because they totally do not make sense for me, all that vegan, vegetarian, organic, gluten free, natural ,decaf, no fat, vintage….sometimes I even think they do not even know what that even means. They like talking…and talking a lot and shit talking. And if you are not biking, hiking, climbing, jogging, doing yoga …and other -ing people will think you are weirdo. People even kind of tend to judge by where you live because it reflects who you are. Sounds crazy? I know….

But from another side I enjoy the mixture of cultures. Many times people ask where I am from or where my accent from. At the beginning I was kind of shy to say that I am Lithuanian because of the previous experience – Denmark. Where people would think Lithuanians are just another gypsies who just steal and rob. Here people even do not know what and where is that Lithuania. I believe it is good place to follow your dream ( maybe this is not the best time but it is still possible).

Oh…just dont pay attention to my shit talk its Monday morning and I needed to wake up at 5.45 and while eating breakfast, I was watching through the window how a one squirrel try to rape a dead squirrel – looked pretty sad. So this is my Monday morning.”

Ištrauka iš laiško draugui ” … labai keista, bet kai jaučių namų ilgesį jis būna dvejopas: ilgesys Lietuvai ir ilgesys Danijai. Kalifornija yra puiki valstija, bet aš vis dar adaptuojuosi naujoje kultūroje. Žmonės gyvenantys San Franciske yra labai keisti sutvėrimai, kuriuos man sunku perprasti ir kartais toleruoti, gal problema slypi manyje arba gal aš tiesiog vis dar nesutikau tinkamų žmonių. Jie per daug dedasi KIETI ir per daug hipsteriški… kartais taip juokinga paklausyti svetimų pokalbių…kurie visiškai kartais neturi prasmės ,apie vegetarizmą , veganizmą, ekologiją, organiškus produktus, natūralumą, be gluteino, be kofeino, be riebalų, vintažas…kartais atrodo, kad jie patys nebe susigaudo apie ką šneką ir ką tai reikšia. Jie tiesiog mėgsta šnekėti… ir šnekėti apie belenką. Ir jei tu ne važinėji dviračiu, nelaipioji uolomis, nebėgioji, neturistauji, nežygiuoji po žygius, neužsiimi joga… ir visais kitais šiuo metu populiariais “sportais” žmonės manys, kad esi keistuolis nevykėlis. Netgi vertina tave pagal tai kuriame rajone gyveni. Skamba kvailai? Žinau…

Bet iš kitos pusės man labai patinka toks kultūrų mišinys. Daugybę kartų žmonės klausė iš kur aš, iš kur mano akcentas. Pradžioje būdavo labai nedrąsu sakyti, kad aš lietuvė, dėl patirties Danijoje, kur danai tikrai labai neigiamai vertina lietuvius, stereotipas: vagys ir negeri žmonės. O čia nedaug kas net žino kas ta Lietuva ir kur ji randas. Aš tikiu , kad tai puiki vieta siekti savo svajonės ( nors gal šiuo metu ir ne pats tinkamiausias laikas, bet įmanoma).

Eh…tiesiog nekreipk dėmesio į mano sapaliojimus, tai pirmadienio rytas man reikėjo keltis 5.45 ir kol pusryčiavau stebėjau už lango kaip viena voverė bandė išprievartauti padvėsusią ant kelio gulinčią kitą voverę – atrodė liūdnai. Taigi tai mano pirmadienio rytas”
